Once a Spartan….(Part Two)

Friday, 26 June 2015

Over the summer we are keeping track of some former Spartans who have been in the news. Whether that be players moving clubs, managers being appointed or anything else, you can find the latest here.

First up we have former defender

Nathan Buddle

(pictured above with captain Robbie Dale), who has secured his release from Carlisle United and seems set to join Vanarama National League club Gateshead on Monday.

As Buddle arrives at the International Stadium

Phil Turnbull

departs to take up a teaching job.

Two of new Heed boss Malcolm Crosby's first signings are

Josh Gillies

and

James Marwood

both agreed returns to the club in the last two weeks, both players had spells with Spartans earlier in their careers.

One player exiting the International Stadium is former Spartans number one

Adam Bartlett

, as he was somewhat surprisingly released by the club.

As well as Buddle, two more former Spartans defenders have been in the news. Former captain

Wayne Buchanan

has been released by EBAC Northern League side Ashington, whilst another former skipper,

Joe Kendrick

, has moved to West Auckland Town after leaving Washington.

Joining Kendrick at West will be another former Spartans stopper,

David Knight

.

David Coulson

has joined FA Vase champions, who of course are managed by Graham Fenton.

Striker

Marc Walton

has decided to join his former Newcastle United academy team mate

Andy Ferrell

at Bedlington Terriers. Walton spent the latter part of last season at West Allotment Celtic.

Former Spartans centre back

Arjun Purewal

has completed a return to Bishop Auckland, as the defender left Durham City.

Morpeth Town have completed the signing of former Croft Park favourite

Chris Swailes

.

Meanwhile off the pitch

Gary Middleton

has joined the revolution at South Shields. The former Ashington boss joining the club as John King's assistant.
