Paddy Almond returns to Spartans
Wednesday, 1 January 2025
Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce the signing of defender Paddy Almond from Ashington.
Almond, who started his career with Sunderland, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Spartans at the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.
The central defender departed Sunderland that summer, and a serious car accident threatened to put a halt to his career, but he returned to football with Shildon later that year, before joining Darlington on a dual registration.
He joined Northern League side Whitley Bay in November 2023, before an impressive season saw him earn a move to the Colliers ahead of the 2024/25 season.
So far this season he has made 28 appearances for Ashington, scoring twice.
On Almond's arrival, First-team Manager Michael Connor said:
Since I came in I felt that we need a leader at the back. We want to play on the front foot and to do that you need someone who can implement how you see the game on the field. Paddy fits this like a glove and I'm over the moon to get him on board.
Head coach Nathan Haslam added:
He's a natural leader and communicator. Does the basics really well and brings a presence to the football pitch. We're delighted to get him on board.
