Picton’s Patter - after the Grantham game

Monday, 5 October 2015

"A win's a win," was Blyth Assistant Manager Lee Picton's succinct summary of his side's 3-2 win at Grantham on Saturday.

He went on to say: "It was a hard earned win. It was a game where we had to play a bit ugly to get the result. Having said that we started where we left off playing like we did last Saturday and Tuesday.

"To be fair to Grantham they worked really hard although we maybe gifted them their first goal which let them back in to the game and after that we had to really dig in to come away with the three points. It showed we have got that blend of being able to play attractive football as well as being able to grind out results as well.

"It was unfortunate to lose Ryan [Hutchinson] who has been absolutely superb in the last few games. But Danny [Parker] came on and did a great job. He hasn't played much football recently and he had to hit the ground running at the weekend."

With both Nantwich and Darlington 1883 losing on Saturday did Picton think it meant much this early in the season?

"No, not really," he replied. "We have to focus only on ourselves. However you have to say it was a good day for us.

"We will face a similar task on Tuesday at Rambottom as at Grantham. Rammy are struggling a bit at the moment much like, on paper, Grantham were and they put up a real good showing against us. With topping the league we are now a target for whoever we play and they'll find that extra fight when they come up against Blyth Spartans."
