Tuesday, 25 February 2014
The club can confirm that the Croft Park pitch was damaged at some point between Saturday evening and Monday morning and Northumbria Police have issued the following statement appealing for witnesses:
Police are appealing for information after damage was caused to parts of Blyth Spartans' pitch.
Between 5:45pm Saturday, February 22, and 10am Monday, February 24, vandals broke into the Blyth Spartans football stadium and dug up sections of the turf containing the centre spot and penalty spot.
Enquiries are ongoing into the offence and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.
Blyth Neighbourhood Sergeant Garry Neill said: "We are checking CCTV from nearby properties and would appeal for anyone with any information into the offence to come forward and speak to us.
"We believe the offenders may have got onto a roof to get inside the ground and they may have had ladders and shovels with them. If anyone saw anything suspicious over the weekend then I'd ask them to get in touch."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101 ext 69191.
