Preview | Chorley FC (A) | Isuzu FA Trophy Third Round | 2023/24

Friday, 8 December 2023

Blyth Spartans turn their attention to the Isuzu FA Trophy as they face Chorley in the third round.

The Spartans reached the third stage of the competition last year and were knocked out as they suffered a 5-0 defeat away to York City.

In their last outing, the Spartans won 3-1 against Rushall Olympic as they completed a well-needed comeback after going 1-0 down.

Team News

Jordan Hickey, JJ Hooper, Lewis Knight and Harry Arnison will not be involved on Saturday afternoon as they recover from their respective injuries.

Alex Mitchell will also be out of action, meaning Michael Hogan, who recently signed dual-registration terms with Marc Nash's Newcastle Blue Star, will be set for his second competitive Spartans appearance.

What We're Saying

Following a great comeback against Rushall Olympic, Graham Fenton said: "It was pretty poor, but we're delighted with the result.

"We were just saying and everyone is on the same boat, it's not just me, Jon and Devs saying it, all the players know that's probably one of our worst performances this season, but it's a mad game isn't it."

Opposition

The Magpies have played just once since they last played Blyth as they drew 2-2 with Boston United on November 25th, leaving them seventh in the league.

Last time out in the FA Trophy, Josh Popoola's 53rd-minute strike allowed Chroley to advance to the third round as they beat Scarborough Athletic 1-0.

Last Time We Met

The sides met just two and a half weeks ago in National League North action at Croft Park, as the Spartans drew 1-1 with Chorley due to a 94th-minute equaliser from Nicky Deverdics.

At Victory Park last season, the sides were held to a 1-1 draw after second-half goals from both sides shared the points on the day.
