Preview | Spartans look for third successive win
Friday, 4 October 2019
Blyth Spartans make the trip down South to face Hednesford Town in the FA Cup third qualifying round.
Spartans have found form recently winning back-to-back games as well as being three games unbeaten.
Hednesford Town find themselves second in the BetVictor Southern Premier Central League Table, one point behind Rushall Olympic.
Key details
The game will be a usual 3 pm kick-off at the Keys Park as Spartans look to take a step closer to the FA Cup first round.
As things stand, there are no plans for fans to be segregated with Blyth expected to bring a good number of fans to the game.
The opposition
They are currently playing in the league below Blyth and sitting one point off top of the table.
It has been a superb turnaround by The Pitmen who have failed to finish higher than 15th in their last three seasons.
They managed to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1997 beating York City and Blackpool on their way, before falling to an agonising 3-2 defeat against Middlesborough.
They are currently unbeaten in their last six games scoring 15 goals and conceding just the three.
The Pitmen have not progressed past the qualifying rounds since 2005 with most of their exits coming in their first round.
The manager
Gary Hayward is the man at the helm for the Pitmen and is looking forward to facing a side from a higher division.
He told Hednesford Town's club website: "They are in the league above and Lee Clark will have them well organised and up for it. We have a game plan and will have to match them for hard work, get into them and be up for the challenge.
"The FA Cup is a great competition and it would be great to get to the First Round Proper and play a big-league side at Keys Park."
Key man
Danny Glover is Hednesford Town's top scorer this season with five goals in only six starts for the club.
Proving to be a real threat in front of goal as well as bringing more to the team than just goals with his good link-up play between midfield and attack.
He can cause many problems for defences with his willingness to run in-behind.
However, Lee Clark's men will be confident of keeping him quite having only conceded one in their last two matches.
