Rivers to spend week on trial with Latics

Blyth Spartans winger Jarrett Rivers will spend this week on trial at SkyBet League One club Oldham Athletic. The former Middlesbrough academy player has come to the attention of several Football League clubs following Spartans exploits in the FA Cup, including Rivers late winner in the Second Round win over Hartlepool United.
Rivers joined Spartans from Northern League side Whitley Bay in the summer and his two goals in Saturday's win over Belper Town means he has scored nine goals in his twenty nine appearances so far this season.
Spartans manager Tom Wade was delighted that the young winger has been brought to the attention of the Latics and admitted that there had been a lot of interest already.
"It's a great opportunity for Jarrett to go down there and make an impression. He has been great for us this season and it shows how far we have come that the young lads are getting noticed. They're a good group of lads and they deserve the recognition they are getting.
There are a lot of other clubs interested in signing him and in all honesty the phone hasn't stopped ringing. We wish him all the best down there and hope it works out for him. We know he will be looked after because they were great with Dan Maguire when they took him on trial last season."
