Robbo lauds Spartans character

Spartans midfielder Paul Robinson paid tribute to his side's "great character" as they maintained an unbeaten away record that stretches back to Boxing Day with a late draw at Matlock Town. Ash Davis' late goal gave them a deserved point and it was a point Robinson felt his side were good value for.

"We've come away from home and not been beaten again. Obviously we have gone a goal down but we have shown great character to get the equaliser and I think we more than deserved it"

A scrappy first half saw Spartans struggle to maintain any pressure on their hosts but that was something they addressed in the second period. As the chances came and went Robinson was always confident that an equaliser would come.

"The first half it was really difficult to get on the ball in midfield but the second half I think we managed to get on the ball more. We plugged away, creating some chances and I thought that goal would come. To be fair to Ash(Davis), he has done brilliantly to get the equaliser"

Spartans welcome Evo-Stik Northern Premier League title challengers FC United of Manchester to Croft Park on Saturday with the Rebels level on points with Chorley at the top of the table. Robinson admitted he couldn't wait for the game and assured the Green Army his side would be up for the challenge.

"It's a massive game and the sort of game you want to play in when you play in this league. They are flying and they'll bring a load of fans so there should be a great atmosphere. It's a big challenge but we are looking forward to it and we will be up for it"
