Scott Bell Fund - 7 Aside Competition

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

Sunday 2 October saw a seven aside football competition take place in Cramlington, with all monies raised going to the Scott Bell Fund.

One of the opening 'clashes' of the competition, saw a team of SpartansFans (including current Spartans manager Steve Cuggy and current Spartans Seb Anzeuvi and Matty Crook as 'ringers') take on team featuring some of Scotty's former teammates in Rob Dale, Peter Snowdon, Gary Brown and Gareth Williams - Surely this mismatch would see a cricket score victory to the Spartans legends?

The game, played in the best of spirits, saw the "Fans" team take the lead with a fine long range strike from Spartans Press Officer Andrew Dodds, with the "Players" rescuing a late point.

The fans team were eliminated at the end of the ground stages on goal diffence (the two teams and one of the other teams in the group all ending on 7 points) before the ex-Spartans players went on to be beaten in the final on penalties.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, despite the rain, and a total in excess of £1,000 was raised to go towards the fund!

Well done to all those involved!
