Senior Cup | Spartans Face Short Trip For Semi-Final Clash
Wednesday, 21 December 2016
A Blyth-based side will definitely take part in this season's Techflow Group Northumberland Senior Cup final - after Spartans were drawn away to close neighbours Blyth Town in the last four of the competition.
Alun Armstrong's side will take on the Northern League Division Two newcomers at South Newsham Playing Fields in a semi-final tie to be played on or before Saturday March 4 2017.
The two sides previously met back in the quarter-finals of this competition back in October 2006, when Harry Dunn oversaw a comfortable 5-1 victory in front of a crowd of 638 at Croft Park. Spartans also have current bragging rights in this fixture - after Michael Richardson's brace and Daniel Maguire's deflected effort helped to claim a 3-1 pre-season victory over the three-time Northern Alliance Premier Division champions back in July.
The other semi-final sees current Techflow Group Northumberland Senior Cup holders North Shields play host to Newcastle United Under 23s.
