Spartans and Viz - Reunited!

Blyth Spartans are thrilled to announce that we have partnered up with Viz once more!

The partnership first came about over 30 years ago as Viz came in as a club sponsor, leading to the design of one of Spartans most iconic kits and matchday programmes.

Now, to commemorate the club coming under community ownership in its 125th year, the Newcastle-based comic will be creating special edition matchday posters, that will be raffled to raise funds for the club.

Viz editor Graham Drury, was delighted to be reunited with Spartans (or at least to have the chance to clear some space in the office!), “Viz Comic was very proud to sponsor Blyth Spartans back in the 1990s. But since that time, we have taken the decision to sell nowhere near as many comics as we used to, with the result being that we're now a bit skint.”

“However, to help the Spartans CIC raise funds for the club, Viz Comic will be donating an original piece of artwork for each home game to be raffled off, along with any signed and scribbled-in annuals and any other Viz tat we find lying round.”

“There will also be a draw of season ticket holders at the end of the season with the first name out of the hat winning a year's subscription to Viz comic. The second name out the hat will win a two-years subscription.”

Blyth Spartans director Kevin Miles added, “It's fantastic to have Viz back supporting the Spartans. For myself, and I'm sure many other fans, it brings back happy memories of our partnership in the 90s and those iconic shirts.”“It's another feel-good story in what is a historic season for the club with it coming under community ownership for the first time. We are very grateful to Graham for his role in making this happen.”
