Spartans Midfield Goes Ferrell
Monday, 12 March 2012
Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of combative midfielder Andy Ferrell, on a month's loan, from Blue Square Premier side Barrow (subject to the final confirmation from the Football Conference).
'Fez',a 28-year-old left footed central midfielder, started his career at Newcastle United and has since enjoyed spells at Watford, Hereford United, Kidderminster Harriers, York City and Gateshead, before joining the Cumbrians in the summer following a successful loan spell there at the end of the previous season from Gateshead.
This season, Ferrell has featured 25 times for the Bluebirds, scoring twice and it is hoped that the midfielder's hard tackling style will give some bite to the Spartans midfield.
Manager Tommy Cassidy commented "We're pleased to get Andy on board, he is player with good pedigree and will hopefully bring us a bit of steel and tenacity in the middle of the park, which is something that we don't currently have in abundance. With Neal Hooks struggling and Sam Hodgson coming back from illness, it is also useful to get in an extra body.
"I have spoken to Dave Bayliss (Manager at Barrow AFC) and he feels that the move is good for both us and for the player and is confident that Andy will do a good job for us."
Andy will go straight into the squad for tomorrow night's away game with Droylsden (kick off 7.45pm)
Welcome to the club Andy!
