Spartans Sign David Coulson
Saturday, 4 June 2011
Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce that Whitley Bay centre back David Coulson is the latest recruit to join Steve Cuggy's new look squad.
The 27-year-old has been involved in two of Whitley Bay's three FA Vase victories (he was injured for the middle one) and was the captain the first time that the Bay picked up the trophy.
He started his career at Lincoln City and since played for Ilkeston Town, Gateshead and Spennymoor before moving to Hillheads some 6 seasons ago.
Manager Steve Cuggy commented "I'm really pleased to get David on board, he is an excellent defender - aggressive, strong and a real leader on the pitch.
"I think he felt he'd gone a bit stale at Whitley and was looking for a new challenge at a higher level, so with me and Gav coming to Blyth, it feels like a natural progression. He had a bad knee injury the season before last and, having played the last 20 or so games of last season and with a strong pre-season behind him, I think he'll be back to his very best.
"He a smashing lad and I think he will be a real hit at Blyth - both on and off the pitch - He was also really keen to move to Croft Park, so hopefully the move will work well for all parties"
Welcome to the club David!
