Spartans Sign Glen Taylor

Monday, 8 August 2011

Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of Ashington forward Glen Taylor.

The 21-year-old target man, who stands 6 foot 2, started his senior career at Ashington, during his time there he enjoyed a successful loan spell at North Shields. The majority of last season was spent with management duo Steve Cuggy and Gavin Fell at Whitley Bay and Glen moved back to Ashington over the summer.

Taylor featured against Blyth in the Spartans 4-0 win over Ashington, earlier in this pre-season.

Fell commented "It was a shame that it didn't work out for Glen at Whitley Bay, he arrived midway through last season in a move that saw Phill Bell move to Ashington, sadly he had played previously in the FA Vase that season and this meant that he was in the side one week and the out of it the next as Whitley Bay continued their build up to Wembley, so he never really got a good solid run in the side, but what we saw was enough to convince me and Cuggs that Glen was a more that useful player."

Manager Steve Cuggy commented "I hoping that Glen will provide good competition for Graeme Armstrong as well as good cover for him. We hope that his already good all-round game will develop and improve playing at a higher level."

"Hopefully he will be involved in tonight's final friendly, away at Dunston."

Kick off in the Dunston UTS game will be 7.30pm.

Welcome to the club Glen!
