Spartans Sign Robert Birdsall
Monday, 28 November 2011
Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of Republic of Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper Robert Birdsall.
The 20-year-old has been playing with Irish side Tralee Dynamos, but has come across to England in order to further his career. With David Knight facing a suspension for this Saturday's clash with Bichops Stortford, the 'keeper could be called into first team action straight away.
Manager Steve Cuggy commented "We had Robert training with us a while ago, around the time that we got David (Knight) and were looking to bring him in then, but he was keen to get himself sorted with a full time deal.
"He's been playing for Bradford City reserves recently, but they have their 'keepers sorted for the season and couldn't accommodate him. His arrival could be timely though given Knight's upcoming suspension"
Welcome to the club Robert.
