Spartans sign Shields Duo

Friday, 31 May 2013

Blyth Spartans can announce their first signings of the summer in the shape of attacking duo Robert Nolan and Dean Holmes from North Shields.

Nolan, a 23 year old Centre Forward, signed for the Robins at the start of the season just finished from Washington and went onto the score a hatful of goals for Graham Fenton's side.

Holmes is a winger, who can play on either wing or up front and was also a regular scorer for Shields.

Manager Tom Wade commented "I'm really pleased to get the two lads in, they've got exactly the right attitudes that I am looking for. Both of them are fit lads, have technical ability, with good pace, have 100% work ethic and are really ambitious and keen to play at the highest level that they can."

"I've known both of them for a while, as they were in my Under-18 team and I have watched them progress and develop over the last few seasons and feel that both are at the stages of their career where they need to move to a club like Blyth in order to progress."

"Rob is an excellent goalscorer, he reminds me of a young Paul Brayson in way the that he plays and, as everyone at Croft Park knows, that is high praise indeed!"

As part of the deal that sees Rob and Dean move to Croft Park, Blyth Spartans will take a side to the Daren Persson Stadium for a pre-season friendly to face former Spartan Graham Fenton's side on Saturday July 6th.

Welcome to the club lads!
