Spartans U10s 2 Montagu Lions 6

This was the second week in a row when when we played top of the table opposition and another team who had won every game so far this season. Reece was unavailable due to illness and Daniel through injury. This meant that in what was potentially our hardest game of the season so far, we only had on sub to use so the majority of the team would have to play the whole game. Lewis P dropped into defence with Reece missing and he had a solid game in an unfamiliar position. Spartans surprised Monagu by taking the lead in the first quarter through Besty, but we didn't hold the lead for long as they equalised virtually straight away. Going into the second quarter level we thought we had a chance, but a moment of madness (or should that be 5 minutes of madness) when the team switched off and letting Montagu play football and scoring three quick goals before Besty pulled one back before the end of the quarter. But what a goal this was. He picked the ball up in our half and ran through the centre of the Monatgu team past four before ending up one on one with the keeper and hammering the ball into the back of the net. We were still in the game, but needed to score next to carry the momentum. Unfortunately, Montagu got the next goal which put the game beyond our reach and grabbed a sixth in the last quarter. But, the positives from the game was the hard working team performance which allowed us to score two goals which is more than any other team has scored against Montagu this season. But for the three goals in the second quarter when we switched off, who knows how this could have turned out.
