Spenny keeper McHugh joins Spartans

Tuesday, 30 June 2015

Blyth Spartans have moved to replace Peter Jeffries with another goalkeeper who joins them from Spennymoor Town.

Adam McHugh follows the same path as Jeffries did twelve months ago as he finalised a deal to join Tom Wade's side after a protracted set of negotiations.

The twenty three year old keeper began his career at St Mirren as a junior, spending time on loan with another Scottish side, Forfar Athletic.

He then moved back to England in August 2012 as he joined Hartlepool United and after one season at Victoria Park joined Vanarama Conference side Forest Green Rovers, although spent time training with Tranmere Rovers before moving to the New Lawn.

A move to Spennymoor Town came about last summer and the commanding stopper, who stands at 6ft 4, was part of the Moors side that reached the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North play-offs, falling at the semi final stage against Darlington.

Now McHugh makes the step up to the Premier Division and his new manager, Tom Wade, hailed his new addition as "another top signing".

He said "It is a big loss for us that Nick Thomson is heading back to the United States in September but we have got a young keeper in Adam who is noted as one of the best in the area.

He is a big lad and comes with a very good pedigree. He will be a huge bonus for our squad in the coming season and beyond. Adam is another top signing for us and we have been really impressed with his attitude. He is still only young for a keeper at twenty three years old and we all think he has a great future in the game"

McHugh becomes Spartans third new addition of the summer after Paul Robinson and Sean Reid joined from Whitley Bay and West Allotment Celtic respectively.

A full interview with Spartans new boy Adam McHugh will be available on the website tomorrow afternoon.
