Standards slipped for disappointed Maguire
Saturday, 26 October 2013
Spartans striker Dan Maguire was quick to admit that the 1-3 home defeat against Kings Lynn Town was down to his side not performing to the standard they expect and felt that last week's destruction of Skelmersdale United had gone to waste. A poor show from Spartans meant that they couldn't carry on their good run of form, something Maguire described as "disappointing".
"It feels like last week has gone to waste a little bit with that defeat. We really let our standards drop and that's not good enough. They took their chances well and their keeper has made some excellent stops to keep them in front. It's disappointing"
Spartans have a chance to put the defeat against the Linnets as soon as possible when Frickley Athletic come to Croft Park on Tuesday night, an opposition that gives them the chance to complete their first league double of the season. A 1-0 win in Yorkshire in September was a high point of Spartans season and Maguire wants feels it's an ideal chance to make amends for today's defeat.
"We have to kick on again and put today behind us. We have Frickley on Tuesday and it's a chance to focus on getting three points with a better performance to make sure we get back on track"
