Statement | National League propose 2020-21 start date
Tuesday, 28 July 2020
Blyth Spartans AFC will begin their 2020/21 National League North season on Saturday October 3, subject to approval by the FA and government.
Following a National League board meeting on Friday, it has been proposed that:
- The scheduled start date of the 2020/21 Season is Saturday, 3 October 2020.
- 46 league fixtures will be scheduled in the National Division, and either 42 or 40 league fixtures will be scheduled in the North and South Divisions.
- The final league match of the normal season is scheduled for Saturday 29 May 2021.
- The end of season play-offs are scheduled to take place in June 2021.
It is expected that the campaign will commence with spectators present, at a significantly reduced stadium capacity in order to meet social distance guidelines.
Furthermore, in line with the guidance provided to us by the National League, the club won't be confirming any pre-season friendlies until we receive further information.
As it stands, we are advised to only proceed with friendly matches once the protocols put in place have implemented Stage 3.
- Stage 1 Return to Training
- Stage 2 Return to Training, Close Contact
- Stage 3 Return to Competition, No Spectators
- Stage 5 Return to Competition, Safe Return of Spectators
Each of the above will be based on the government's Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance on the phased return of sport and recreation.
