Statement on behalf of Blyth Spartans AFC

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

Blyth Spartans AFC are aware of a complaint of racial abuse having been submitted to the FA, and subsequently to the Football Association of Wales, by our player Richard Offiong. This follows alleged comments made to him by an opposition player during the Blue Square North fixture against Colwyn Bay on Saturday 5th November.

It is understood that Colwyn Bay FC are conducting an inquiry in to the alleged incident and Blyth Spartans will await the outcome of the inquiry (and any others) which they trust will be handled thoroughly and diligently.

We also expect that, should the outcome of the inquiry deem necessary, appropriate action is taken against any individual found guilty and that a full apology is made to our player.

Blyth Spartans will not tolerate racial abuse, which has absolutely no place in society, and we expect other clubs and individuals to be of like mind.
