Summer Sports Camp

Thursday, 11 July 2024

Blyth Spartans are excited to announce a new summer sports camp ran by former Spartans captain, Wayne Buchanan.

The former defender joined the Spartans in August 2010 and went on to play 178 times for Blyth across three seasons in the Confernece North before leaving the club in the summer of 2013 for Morpeth Town.

The camp will be aimed at Primary School children aged between the ages of 6 and 11 and will run from August 26 until August 30.

On organising the summer sports camp, Wayne said: "I'm really looking forward to helping promote football and sport in general in the Blyth area.

"Sport is so important for physical and mental health and the benefits sport has with regards to building friendships and confidence is often overlooked. Sport can prepare you for most things that you will encounter in life such as dealing with success and failure, working as part of a team, showing leadership and resilience when things go wrong. The list is endless.

"There is a misconception amongst the youth of today that you only play sport if you want to be an elite athlete, however, it is the total opposite as playing sport and being a part of a team is something that we all do as young people for enjoyment and this should continue throughout life!

"I want to make taking part in sports enjoyable and give children the experience of sport that will make them want to continue taking part throughout their lives.

"I hope that lots of parents will see this as beneficial for their children and I can assure you that the children will have a brilliant week, filled with fun and laughs!"
