Tom talks - after the Ashton United game

Pride, that was Tom Wade's overriding emotion after the Blyth Spartans manager witnessed his side's 2-0 victory over Ashton United on Tuesday night.

Pride that his side had won a game at a venue where they hadn't taken three points from in over a decade.

Pride that they finished the night on top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division.

And most of all pride at the way they had dug in throughout a second half where they were put under serious pressure by their hosts.

And that left Wade understandably almost lost for words.

"We were brilliant tonight and I could not be any more proud of the lads. First half it was all about our passing game but we were almost backs against the wall for the majority of the second half.

We dug in, with a young back four, and although there were close calls we have come away with a great result"

The three points took Spartans to the top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division but Wade urged for caution.

"It's great to be there but it means little right now. We just have to carry on doing the right things in games and enjoy what we are doing.

The lads have been great and the dressing room is buzzing but we have a tough run of games coming up and we have to be at our best throughout"
