Tom Talks - After the FC United of Manchester game
Wednesday, 3 September 2014
Spartans manager Tom Wade was left to bemoan his sides' lack of a cutting edge as FC United of Manchester came away from Croft Park with all three points. Before Joe Fox's goal just after the half hour mark Spartans had created good chances that were wasted and Wade felt that they showed the fine margins at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.
"I spoke with their manager after the game and he was impressed with us and we both agreed it came down to chances. To be fair we should have been two goals up before they scored, that's the difference between a good side and a top side"
The Rebels extended their winning streak in games against Spartans to five matches and Wade admitted his side need to look to them as an example of what long term planning can acheive.
"They are a good, solid team and are very well ran but it has taken them time to get where they are. We have a young team and we had put them together in a short space of time. We just lack an option up front and we will be ok"
Spartans welcome Buxton to Croft Park on Saturday for a Non-League Day fixture and Wade wants his side to bounce back in the best possible fashion.
"Every game is this league is a big game and the problems come when you don't treat it in that way. I said these two home games would be tough and we have had a tough start to the season but we do look a good side at times but we need to be more clinical. We can get back on track on Saturday and we will be looking to do that although it will be tough against a strong side"
