Tom talks - after the Nantwich game
Sunday, 12 April 2015
Following his side's dramatic 2-1 win against Nantwich on Saturday Blyth manager Tom Wade confessed to feeling 'pretty excited' about the next few games with a play off chance alluringly possible.
"To be honest, we were very poor in the first half," he said. "They scored, I'd say, against the run of play through a mistake but mistakes happen and players learn from them.
"We looked tired. Before the game I was going to play in a certain way but I changed my mind and I was kicking myself for it because we could have won convincingly if I'd stuck with my original plan. Certain players could have been rested and I take responsibility for a quiet first half from us.
"I told the lads at half time not to get frustrated and to be fair we wore Nantwich down after the break. Ash Davis made a bid difference when he came on as did Dan Hawkins who created the winning goal. I was going to start those two and Wadey [Mathew Wade] and probably should have done."
Looking forward to Tuesday's match at home to Matlock Wade was optimistic.
"The good thing is that we have five players who can start on Tuesday and not weaken the side. We've been asking Stephen Turnbull and Neal Hooks to battle for the ball in midfield but they are creative players and winning the ball is not their game. So Tuesday is a good opportunity to rest a few, with the benefit of a strong bench. Some players looked tired at the weekend. They can't go, go and go again for ever. They need a rest and the chance to freshen up sometimes."
Wade suggested Jarrett Rivers would possibly start the Matlock game after been rested with a back injury.
The Blyth boss is hoping for another excellent and passionate crowd for the game.
"Actually I think the crowd were as nervous as the lads early on in the Nantwich game!," he said. "I think them and us felt the pressure because we are so close to the play offs and I think there is a chance it might go down to the very last game.
"The supporters have a big role to play in the run in. The noise at the end of Saturday's game was tremendous and I think everyone at the club is looking forward to Tuesday night."
