Tom talks - after the Whitby FA Trophy game
Monday, 16 November 2015
Spartans manager Tom Wade felt that his side's win over Whitby Town was a poor performance despite snatching a 1-0 win in the FA Trophy.
Damen Mullen's second-half goal settled the contest and Wade said it wasn't a good game.
He said: "I thought it was probably one of the worst games of the season. Cup games are all about winning the game and getting through to the next round. We'd like to do it with style but it doesn't always happen.
"But we snatched it, we battled hard and that's what it's all about sometimes. I think it's difficult when you're playing a side that knows you really well as we've played them three times in two or three months."
But he suggested that his players were disappointed because they believe they can do better.
Wade added: "It's amazing when you win a trophy game and the lads are devastated because the standards they've set are so high. They're young Lads with huge ambition and I do believe they are destined to do well this season."
Wade was also happy with Blyth beating Whitby three times this season having had a "terrible" record against them for some time.
He said: "I think I've only beaten them twice in my career prior to this season. This season we've beat them three times so it's amazing because they've had one over on Blyth for a long, long time."
