"We had a bad day at the office," commented Blyth boss Tom Wade following his side's 2-0 defeat at Workington on Tuesday.

He continued: "The pitch was awful - really heavy. The worst I've seen in several seasons. It wasn't the reason we lost, however it was the reason we didn't play well. We couldn't keep our feet. It was the kind of pitch which kills a footballing side like us.

"We didn't play well but you have to consider that we had five players out who would probably have started the game. When you lose half a team it's going to be tough.

"I thought Damen Mullen and Wadey [Matthew Wade] were outstanding in the middle. But we needed more effort across the park like they showed.

"We're just looking forward to playing Workington again later in the season at Croft Park on a good surface."

Central defender Nathan Buddle is due to play the last game of his loan spell from Gateshead on Saturday at Hyde United. However Wade revealed that discussions with the Tynesiders are on-going this week with the view of extending his stay at Croft Park.
