Tom talks - after the Worksop Town game

Saturday, 19 April 2014

A subdued but proud Tom Wade described Spartans defeat at Worksop Town as "one of those days" although admitted he felt some decision went against his side. Danny Parker's seventeenth minute dismissal saw Spartans up against and they were three goals down thanks to a Leon Mettam hat-trick. However a never say die spirit and two spectacular goals from Robbie Dale almost grabbed a point, a point that according to Wade his side would have deserved.

"It's one of those days when everything that could have gone against us did. Once the referee gives the foul against Danny(Parker) he has to send him off. There were other decisions that went against us and we just didn't get what we deserved"

Wade paid tribute to what he called a "team performance" with ten of the eleven starters having played at AFC Fylde on Wednesday night. Despite coming away from both games empty handed the Spartans boss was "proud" of his players and hailed skipper Robbie Dale for two outstanding finishes.

"Robbie was excellent and scored two fantastic goals. We have had to battle and I have to say the two lads in centre midfield battled away against the odds, the defence were strong, as everyone in the side was. We put in a team performance today and I was proud of the lads. We deserved something from both games we have played this week"

Spartans now head into the last week of the season and bring down the curtain on their home campaign by welcoming Whitby Town on Monday afternoon. Then just a day later they head to St James Park for the Tekflow Northumberland Senior Cup Final against Newcastle United U21s. With such a hectic schedule Wade admitted there would be chances for some fringe players but challenged his side to finish the season on a high.

"Whitby is a big game and we have a number of injuries. That's not an excuse as it gives other lads who want game time to play and we want to finish off the season at home well. It will be tough though but we want to win a league game heading into the final on Tuesday"
