Twinny happy to turn back time

The returning Stephen Turnbull reflected on a job well done as he took his place in a Spartans line up for the first time in two years and played his part in a 4-1 win over Ashton United. The former Hartlepool United man would actually walk away with the sponsors man of the match award after an impressive show in the Spartans engine room and he was only too happy to reveal his pleasure at taking three points. He said "It's nice to be back at the club, when I was here last time I really enjoyed it and it's great to be back with a win and a very convincing one at that. It's nice to get back to winning ways, the players here have got it and on tonight's performance we can look to kick on and get ourselves up that table".
In his previous spell at Croft Park Turnbull played alongside the likes of Lee Mason, Neal Hooks and Robbie Dale but it was a player previously unknown to him who caught his eye in the win over the Robins. Two goal striker Dan Maguire should have walked away with the man of the match bottle and has not only impressed Turnbull tonight but also during recent training sessions. He said "Dan was the one who should have got the man of the match award and I told him exactly that after the game. He was different class tonight. When I saw him in training for the first time I pulled Neal Hooks aside and asked about him. Hooksy told me he had come from Seaton Delaval. He's put himself around tonight and scored two good strikers goals, I'm looking forward to seeing more of that from him."
A first win for over a month and four goals added in means that Spartans trip to Hednesford Town on Saturday mean not seem as daunting but the in form Pitmen will still provide a stern test for Turnbull and his team mates having not been beaten in the league since New Years Day. However the midfielder wants his side to build on the win over the Robins and travel to Staffordshire with confidence. He said "We can be confident after tonight and if we are solid with two banks of four we can get something. The likes of Robbie Dale and Lee Mason I know a lot about but I was impressed with everyone tonight. We have delivered tonight and we need to do that again on Saturday."
