Utterson becomes a Hammerhead

Saturday, 9 March 2013

The club can confirm that defender Shaun Utterson has left the club to join US side Wilmington Hammerheads on a full time deal.

The 23-year-old was signed by the Spartans last season following a spell in the US collegiate system and has been one of the club's most consistent players in his time at Croft Park.

The defender commented "I'm disappointed to be leaving Blyth, as I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club, but I've been given the opportunity to play and train full time and that's what I've always wanted to do. I'm looking forward to the move, I know one of their players from my time at College there and trained with them in the summer when I was visiting friends, I was offered a deal then, but was keen to see if I could get anything in the UK."

"It's a shame that today's game was called off, I wanted to make my 50th appearance for the club, but I also wanted to thank everyone connected with the club for all they have done for me since my arrival. Everyone from the Chairman and the board, to the manager, coaching staff, the players and, most importantly, the fans have been great with me and I certainly expect to be back at Croft Park at some point in the future"

The club would like to thank Shaun for his efforts at the club and wish him all the best on his move.
