Vipond taking the positives despite late blow

Saturday, 1 September 2012

Spartans midfielder Shaun Vipond reflected on the late equaliser conceded against Marine and insisted that his side had no reason to be negative after such a good showing against a side who had a 100% record going into the clash at Croft Park. The much fancied Merseyside outfit were four wins from four with only one goal conceded so far this term but a strong showing from Spartans was nearly rewarded with all three points, only to be snatch away from them with a late Karl Noon goal.

Vipond said "They're one of the best sides in the league and will definitely be there or there abouts come the end of the season, we can take massive positives from the game. We have worked hard and when you come from 1-2 down against a top side to nearly win, the lads did well and we have to be positive.

After an injury hit campaign last time out Vipond is working his way back towards full fitness and is starting to feel the benefit of the hectic schedule Spartans face. He said "I am getting fitter each week but I still have a long way to go I know that. Through the week I have been topping up my fitness going out for runs and playing three games in a week meant I was a bit tired today but I think that's understandable after nearly a year out of the game."
