Wade looks forward to “tough” festive double header

Wednesday, 24 December 2014

Spartans manager Tom Wade admitted his side are facing what he described as "two very tough fixtures" over the festive period. Boxing Day sees Evo-Stik Northern Premier League play off challengers Workington come to Croft Park before Spartans travel to Whitby Town's Turnbull Ground on Sunday 29th December and Wade is looking forward to the challenge.

"We are looking at two very tough fixtures here. Workington have recovered well from relegation and they are in amongst the play off challengers and rightly so. They are in form and they are a good barometer to see where we are at. Then we head to Whitby Town and we know games against them are always good tests so it's a good challenge for us and we are looking forward to it"

Wade's side are in impressive form themselves. Saturday's 7-1 win at Grantham Town saw them extend their winning streak to six games and that is included in a run of just three defeats in twenty two games in all competitions. Wade revealed confidence is high in the camp ahead of an important set of fixtures.

"We trained on Monday night and it was a fantastic session. The lads are flying and confidence is high at the moment. We are on a good run of form and we can't wait for games to come"

Wade also had a festive message for Spartans supporters and paid tribute to the Green Army for their support throughout the campaign as he emphasised their importance to everyone at the club.

"I hope the supporters have a great Christmas and New Year and everyone at the club will echo that I am sure. They have certainly earned it. They have followed us everywhere this season and have played their part in our most memorable moments. We can't stress enough how important they are to everyone at the club and we need them to get behind us on Boxing Day and at Whitby Town to help us continue this good run.
