Watson marvels at “best performance of the season”

Blyth Spartans defender Jordan Watson believes that the emphatic 4-0 victory over Ramsbottom United shows that his side are not showing any impact of the recent departures at the club. The former Sunderland academy player put in a dominant performance alongside Ryan Hutchinson at the heart of the back four and he hailed the display as "the best performance of the season".

"The lads have got together after the recent departures at the club and we showed tonight we are together. It was probably the best performance of the season and we know that Ramsbottom going down to ten men made things easier but from our point of view it was a really strong performance"

There was treble delight for the Northern Irishman as he not only helped Spartans win the game and keep a clean sheet but he also got on the scoresheet for the first time in the green and white.

Watson has seen fellow defenders Ryan Hutchinson, Danny Parker, Damen Mullen and the now departed Nathan Buddle all hit the net this season but was relieved to finally join them on the list of Spartans scorers this campaign, although he did joke that some of his team mates were trying to take the strike away from him.

"It's my first goal in any game for four years and my first senior goal. The lads are trying to say it was an own goal but it was definitely over the line when it's hit their lad and come back out. It was a relief because it's been so long and I didn't expect it to come from playing at centre back but I was delighted to get on the scoresheet at last"
