We got what we deserved - Kendrick
Sunday, 31 March 2013
Reflecting on his side's 1-3 defeat at the hands of Ilkeston FC, Spartans defender Joe Kendrick felt that his side could have no complaints over the scoreline. It was Kendrick who got Spartans back into the game with a well taken header but it was Kevin Wilson's side who took the points and the former Mansfield Town and Newcastle United defender wants to see his side improve before the end of the season.
He said "It's hard to take today but as a whole they deserved the win. We just never really got going which is disappointing because we have done alright recently but there is still plenty of time before the end of the season and we have to do our best for the supporters and for the club. We weren't good enough today and we all know that but we know what we have to do to improve."
Kendrick revealed that he is out to impress before the season closes and that the whole squad have to do the same to ensure they stay at Croft Park next season. With nine games left Kendrick feels that every player is effectively "on trial" but also that the squad wants to remain together and look to improve next term.
He said "We all want to stay here and to do that we have to do well between now and the end of the season. We are all on trial and to be fair to Tom he has taken over a group of players that aren't really his which can't be easy but the lads are working hard for him and are a great bunch of lads. You can't really fault their effort and hopefully the results will come."
He also went on to praise new Spartans boss Tom Wade saying "To be honest I am enjoying the games and enjoying working under Tom. He has brought in a lot of new and fresh ideas and I am sure in time they will get us going in the right direction."
