We know it wasn’t good enough - Hodgson

Saturday, 29 September 2012

Spartans midfielder Sam Hodgson was anchored into the left back position today in the 1-4 FA Trophy defeat at the hands of Witton Albion but insisted there was no excuses for the poor show from his side. However he did move to assure fans that the players are fully aware of what had gone wrong at the Help for Heroes Stadium. The former Whitby Town man said "We just weren't good enough from the first minute today, all over the park we were second best and we didn't keep the ball as well as we can. Everyone in that changing room knows that and we have to improve. We didn't start quick enough in either half and once they went two up the game just ran away from us".

Hodgson played at left back and has done on a number of occasions this season and while centre midfield is his position, he knows that it's a case of team coming first as Spartans move through the season. He commented "I just have to try and do a job for the team, we all know that we are a bit short at the back at the moment so have to dig in. I just go back there and try to perform to the best I can, we are all in this together at the moment."

However Hodgson did issue a rallying call to his team mates as he looked forward to Monday night's FA Cup replay at Workington insisting that things would improve. "We have to go there and put today behind us, it's a big game in a big competition for this club and we have to get into the next round, we are going there to do that".
