We learnt our lessons - Davis
Saturday, 19 October 2013
Spartans striker Ash Davis reflected on the spectacular FA Trophy demolition of Skelmersdale United and revealed that the dressing room is "bouncing". It's been a good week for the club with the impressive win over Ilkeston built upon with today's win but Davis was happy to see his side learn the lessons of last Saturday's defeat at Skem.
"It's been a good day, they've been in a rich vein of form and we obviously had a tough match with them last weekend. We knew we needed to get back to basics to get something. We are always dangerous going forward but we knew that we had to tighten up a little and to be fair to the boys we did that. We are bouncing at the moment"
The for Whitley Bay front man hit his first goal for Spartans since his return from the Seahorses as he coolly rolled home from eight yard to get the fourth goal against Skem. However it was about so much more for Davis who has made an impressive start to his second spell at the club and he revealed he is relishing playing alongside the likes of Robbie Dale, Arron Wearmouth and strike partner Dan Maguire.
"Wearmouth and Dale will always create chances for strikers and Maguire works hard up front with me. I think I have connected with him more than anyone and we are starting to read each other more and more as we get used to each other's games."
With the FA Trophy game out of the way Spartans now have a free week to prepare to welcome newly promoted Kings Lynn Town to Croft Park as they return to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League action. Davis admitted that he "cant wait" to get back on the pitch and look to continue his side's impressive start to the season.
"I'm loving being back at the club and I just can't wait for our next game. Obviously we don't have a game on Tuesday so I'm looking forward to next Saturday against Kings Lynn back here"
