We showed our character - Purewal
Saturday, 7 December 2013
Spartans defender Arjun Purewal was delighted with the character his side showed as they fought back from two goals down to claim a point against Marine. For the second time this season the points were shared between the two sides and the former Darlington 1883 and Whitby Town defender felt that Spartans could have taken all three points.
"We got caught cold by two early goals that we gifted them but we showed a lot of character to come back and get a point. We need to get back to how we were defensively at the start of the season because it's individual errors that are costing us. After that we dominated at times and I think we deserved to win it"
It was Dan Maguire who got the goal that sealed Spartans comeback. Purewal paid tribute to the former Seaton Delaval striker describing him as "a big player" and expressed his hope that Maguire could continue his current form between now and the end of the season.
"Dan has been brilliant all season for us and hopefully he can carry on his good form. He's a big player for us and his work rate inspires people"
Not that Maguire was the only player who Purewal paid tribute to. Midfielder Paul Robinson has made a big impact since joining the club from Darlington 1883 and Purewal was quick to point out just what he adds to an already strong Spartans midfield.
"Robbo is a touch of class and you could see what he can do when he gets on the ball. His passing today killed them at times and his shot for the second goal was unbelievable with the power he generated and the accuracy"
